Awards in 2013

At our first competition of the 2013 season, the Australian All Star Cheerleading Federations Geelong Winterfest, we had five dance teams representing Vikings in five different dance sections throughout the day. Three open age teams; Pom, Jazz and Contemporary, one senior Pom team and a Jazz duo made up of our Viking sisters Eleanor and Annie Merriel. Three out of our five teams came home with a trophy. Our senior Pom team came first in their section, bringing home our very first first place trophy in the clubs history. Our contemporary dance troupe placed second in the open contemporary section, earning the second highest scoring contemporary routine of the day. And last but not least our Vikings sisters brought home second place in the open Jazz duo section right at the very end of the day.

Our dancers worked tirelessly after Winterfest to inprove their routines for the Victorian State Championships. After a very long day at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, four out of our six state teams came home with trophies for their hard work. Our Senior Pom team came first again! Both our Jazz and Contemporary troupes come in fourth in their sections and our Golden Girls pom duo, Stephanie Vienet and Lorena Colaianni, placed third in their debut performance as a pair.

Then after more hard work, blood, sweat and tears we arrived in November at the Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation National Championship at the Melbourne Convention Centre. As this was our first every National Championship as a club we were all both very excited and nervous. Six teams completed including our first ever Hip Hop team. All six teams smashed the floor and made an impressive debut on the National stage. After a very long and tough day of competition only one of our teams came home with a trophy, our Contemporary Dance Troupe placed fourth. After a long year we are taking a well earnt break and we will see you all in Jannuary next year!
